Weekly Newsletter

Mrs. Ginn’s First Grade Newsletter – September 24, 2012
Don’t forget our animal habitat projects are due this week!  Please have them in by Wednesday.  Thank you!

If you have not sent in your child’s permission slip for the Mayfield trip please do so ASAP.  If we don’t have enough in donations to cover the trip we will not be able to go.  This is a fun trip and I really don’t want us to miss it!  If you can help as a chaperone I would love to have you!!
 
 Reading and Language Arts:
·        We will be learning about apples and Johnny Appleseed this week. We will be reading many different versions of Johnny Appleseed, Apples, Apple Countdown, Apples A to Z and many others!
·        This will also include our Reading Street basal reader.  Please be looking for it to come home with your child on Wednesday and read Animal Park.
·        We will study the short u sound this week. 

Spelling:
Please practice daily!  We will have spelling test on Friday.
Spelling Words:
·        run, cut, must, sun, up, bump, jump, bus, nut, rug, many, into
Math:
This week in math we are learning about plane shapes.  We will be able to name, describe and create them. 
Please continue working with your child at home on counting from 1-120. 

Language Arts:
This week we will continue studying sentences including:
·        Sentence structure and questions.

Don’t forget Open House is Thursday 6:00-7:30pm!

Weekly Newsletter


Mrs. Ginn’s First Grade Newsletter – September 17, 2012

We will not have reading groups the rest of this week due to a state pre-test being give Tuesday-Thursday and our field trip on Friday.  If you volunteer to help during reading groups you do not need to come this week. 
 
 Reading and Language Arts:
·        We will be doing an author study on Eric Carle this week. We will be reading Rooster’s Off to See the World, The Mixed Up Chameleon, A Grouchy Ladybug, Pancakes, Pancakes, The Foolish Tortoise and many others!
·        This will also include our Reading Street basal reader.  Please be looking for it to come home with your child on Wednesday and read Get the Egg!
·        We will study the short e sound this week. 

Spelling:
Please practice daily!  We will have spelling test on Friday.
Spelling Words:
·        bed, men, red, step, ten, net, leg, jet, sled, wet, saw, your
Math:
This week in math we are continuing to practice counting to 120, starting at any number less than 120 and read and write numerals and represent a number of objects with a written numeral.
We will be counting by 10’s and learning about odd and even numbers
Please have your child work on counting 1-120. 

Language Arts:
This week we will continue studying sentences including:
·        Sentence structure and telling sentences.

Don’t forget our field trip to Lee University is on Friday, September 21!

Weekly Newsletter

Mrs. Ginn’s First Grade Newsletter – September 4, 2012

I hope everyone had a wonderful Labor Day weekend and enjoyed the break!
This week we will be focusing on zoos.

Reading and Language Arts:
·        We will be reading My School’s A Zoo, Curious George, Birthday Zoo, How Leo Learned to Be King Good Night Gorilla, Deep in the Jungle, and many others!
·        We will studying the short vowel “o” this week
·        Reading Groups start Wednesday, September 5th.  Please look for a book to come home with your child every day except for Friday.  Please read the book with your child every night and return to school the next day.

Spelling:
Please practice daily!  We will have spelling test on Friday.
Spelling Words:
·        mom, hot, hop, pot, pop, ox, lock, mop, got, rock, help, use
Math:
This week in math we are continuing to practice counting to 120, starting at any number less than 120 and read and write numerals and represent a number of objects with a written numeral.
We will also be comparing and ordering numbers.

Language Arts:
This week we will continue studying sentences including:
·        Naming and Action parts of sentences and sentence structure

Science:
We will be focusing on what living things need and zoo animals.

Don’t forget our Grandparent’s Day celebration is on Friday, 2:00-2:45!
