Weekly Newsletter

Mrs. Ginn’s First Grade Newsletter – April 15, 2013
TCAP is next week!  This is a week closer than we originally had thought.  Please change the dates on your calendar.  Reading groups end on Wednesday this week.  Your child will not bring home reading group books after that.  Thanks!
Reading and Phonics:
·        We will be learning about Inventors this week. We will be reading many different books like Simple Machines, Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison, Ben Franklin, Ben Franklin and his First Kite, and many others!
·        We will be studying vowel sounds aw and au.
·        We will review Drawing Conclusions.  

Grammar:
·        We will be learning about using I and me.

Spelling:
Please practice daily! We will have a spelling test on Friday.
·        saw, draw, crawl, straw, law, jaw, paw, lawn, yawn, hawk, through, science

Math:
This week in math we are working on telling time and reviewing for TCAP. 
*We have started our timed math facts.  Please make sure your child practices at home.  We are working on subtracting 2. 

Science: Simple Machines

Weekly Newsletter

Mrs. Ginn’s First Grade Newsletter – April 2, 2013
I hope everyone had a wonderful Spring Break!
Reading and Phonics:
·        We will be learning about Plants this week. We will be reading many different books like A Tree is a Plant, Seed to Plant, Dot and Jabber and the Great Acorn Mystery, The Tiny Seed, From Seed to Plant and many others!
·        We will be studying vowels in book.
·        We will review Compare and Contrast.  

Grammar:
·        We will be learning about how sentences begin and end.

Spelling:
Please practice daily! We will have a spelling test on Friday.
·        book, moon, took, food, look, pool, zoo, noon, good, foot, instead, another

Math:
This week in math we are working on non standard and standard measurement.  We will also be comparing capacity and weight.  *We have started our timed addition math facts.  Please make sure your child practices at home.  We are working on plus 9.
