Mrs. Ginn’s First Grade Newsletter – September 29, 2014

If you have not sent in your child’s permission slip for our field trip Friday please do so ASAP.  Thank you!

Reading and Phonics:

·        We will be learning about apples this week.  We will be reading Amazing Apples, Apples A to Z, Apples, Up, Up, Up! It’s Apple Picking Time, The Apple Pie Tree and many others!

·        We will be studying the diagraphs sh and th this week.

Grammar:

·        We will be working on nouns.  

Comprehension:

·        We will be working on cause and effect this week.  

Spelling:

Please practice daily! We will have a spelling test on Thursday.

·        ship, fish, then, shut, with, rush, shell, shop, trash, thin, next, under

Math:

·        This week in math we are working on subtraction.

Social Studies:

·        Apple tree life cycle

October 3, 2014 Field trip to Mayfield Farm and Corn Maze

M-Gym and Music T-Computer W-Music and Library Th-Gym and Library (check out)   “Arkansas author, David Sargent, Jr., will be visiting Yates with his furry friends (dogs) on Thursday, October 2 at 2:30 in the gym.  He will have his books with him to sell and he has agreed to autograph them.  Each book costs $7.00 (tax included).  An order form was sent home.  Contact Ms. Johnson, the librarian, if you need another one: jjohnson@clevelandschools.org or send a note with your child.  Parents are invited to attend.”

Mrs. Ginn’s First Grade Newsletter – September 15, 2014

Reading and Phonics:

·        We will be doing an author study on Eric Carle this week.  We will be reading Rooster’s Off to See the World, The Mixed Up Chameleon, A Grouchy Ladybug, Pancakes, Pancakes, The Foolish Tortoise and many others!

·        We will be studying the short e sound this week.

Grammar:

·        We will be working on telling sentences.

Comprehension:

·        We will be working on realism and fantasy.

Spelling:

Please practice daily! We will have a spelling test on Friday.

Math:

·        This week in math we are working on addition and starting subtraction.

Science:

·        Animal Needs, Clouds, and the Ladybug Lifecycle

Mrs. Ginn’s First Grade Newsletter – September 8, 2014

Reading and Phonics:

·        We will be learning about animals and their habitats this week.  We will be reading many different books like Deep in the Jungle, How Leo Learned to Be King, Animal Habitats, A House is a House for Me, and many others!

·        We will be studying the inflected ending –s and –ing this week.

Grammar:

·        We will be working on word order in sentences.

Spelling:

Please practice daily! We will have a spelling test on Friday.

·        nap, naps, sit, sits, win, wins, fit, fits, hit, hits, say, ask

Math:

·        This week in math we are starting to work on simple addition by making numbers 6-9.  Please continue working on ordering numbers with your child at home and counting to 120.

Science:

·        We will be focusing on animal habitats.
