Mrs. Ginn’s First Grade Newsletter – August 19, 2013

Please help your child study their spelling words this week.  We will have our first spelling test on Friday. 

Please check their planner and folder daily.  Homework assignments, when we have them, will be written in planner. 

Reading and Phonics:

·        We will learning about pets and pet needs this week. We will be reading many different books like Cookie’s Week, Harry the Dirty Dog, My Five Senses, Sam, Come Back, Bad Kitty, Poor Puppy, Pete the Cat and many others!

·        We will working on the short a sound. 

Grammar:

·        We will be learning how to write and identify complete sentences.

Comprehension:

·        We will be learning how to identify the character in a story.

Spelling:

Please practice daily!  We will have a spelling test on Friday.

·        at, can, cat, back, dad, am, bat, mad, ran, sack, got, let

Math:

This week in math we are working on numbers and counting. Please have your child practice counting at home.  We want to be able to count to 120 by the end of the year. 

Science: Pets and Pet Needs
