Mrs. Ginn’s First Grade Newsletter – February 19, 2013

Your child’s president report was due today.  They will be presenting their reports to the class this week so please send it in ASAP if you haven’t already.

Reading and Phonics:

·        We will be focusing on President’s Day this week. We will be studying the lives of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. We will be reading many different books like Celebrating Presidents, Let’s Read About George Washington,  Let’s Read About Abraham Lincoln, and many others!

·        We will be studying long i: ie and igh.

·        We will review Realism and Fantasy.  

Grammar:

·        We will be learning about adjectives for what kind.

Spelling:

Please practice daily! We will have a spelling test on Friday.

·        lie, tie, high, might, right, night, bright, light, pie, fight, above, laugh

Math:

This week in math we are working on adding two-digit numbers with tens.

*We have started our timed addition math facts.  Please make sure your child practices at home.  We are working on plus 5. 

Social Studies:

·        President’s Day

·        Abraham Lincoln and George Washington
