Mrs. Ginn’s First Grade Newsletter – November 26, 2012

We are starting something new in spelling this week.  I am giving a pretest on Monday so you can see how well your child understands the phonics skill and words for the week.  If your child gets all the words correct I will send home an enrichment list for them. 

Please make sure your child is practicing their part in the Christmas program at home.  Our play is next week (December 4^th) and they need the extra practice at home.  Thanks for your help!

 

 Reading and Phonics:

·        We will be doing an author study on Laura Numeroff this week. We will be reading many different books like If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, If you Give a Pig a Pancake, If you Give a Moose a Muffin, If You Give a Cat a Cupcake, If You Give a Dog a Donut and many others!

·        We will study digraphs of –ng and -nk this week. 

·        We will learn about Plot and Cause and Effect. We will also review Compare and Contrast with our different books.

Spelling:

Please practice daily!  We will have spelling test on Friday.

Spelling Words:

·        bring, think, pink, bank, sang, wing, rink, blank, rang, sunk, every, sure

Math:

This week in math we are working on subtraction to 20 and fact families.

Language Arts:

·        This week we will be learning about verbs (action words) that add –s.
